KUNTI YADNYA

Pandu the heir of AstinaPura kingdom lives happily with his blind older brother Drestarata. Pandu has two wives DewiKunti and Dewimadri. From his marriage with DewiKunti he has three children namely YudistiraBima and Arjuna and from DewiMadri he has a twin child Nakula and Sahadewa. The Pandu’s five children thus known as PancaPandawa (five Pandawas) while his brother Drestarata       marries DewiGandari and has hundred children and known as SatusKorawa. Pandu died before appointed as the king of AstinaPuraand his second wife DewiMadri also died not long after his dead. So DewiKunti  must earn the life for five children. PancaPandawa was not long in astinaPura because they were driven out by Duryadana to fulfill his ambition to be the king ofAstinaPura            . Exuiling from astinapura, Pancapandawa together with their mother went out and find out a new place to build a new kingdom and then known as IndraPrasta kingdom where they find a new hope for their future and live peacefully and Yudistira the oldest brother of Pandawaas the first king of IndraPrasta.                 Dwelling IndraPrastaDewiKunti would like to do a yadnya (ceremony) for the late of Pandu and DewiMadri. The ceremony  is called PitraYadnya . she ask her son Yudistira to do that and she gives a guideline of yadnya to Yudistira in which the Yadnya must be done in two phases. The first phase is called SAWA PRATEKA by doing a cremation ceremony to accelerate the returning process of Pancamahabhuta (the five elements that composed the human being body. They are soil,water,light,air and ether) to its origin. The second phase is called ATMA WEDANA. This is done to purify the soul of the dead (atma) to be worshipped at the family temple as the holy ancestor that is supposed to unite to the supreme god ( SangHyangWidhi). Without waiting for minute, yudistira ask his four brother and also his colleges to join him to do the yadnya in mutual assistance. Helped by his brother and all his college, Yudistira does the yadnya very well and very soon the news of KUNTI’S YADNYA  spreads very quickly and widely. Not only the people of Indraprasta but also the people from other country are also very happy to hear the news of Kunti’ yadnya. And yudistira become very popular amongs the king all over the country. While everyone is happy but on the Duryadana who always feel jealous to Pandawa is very sad to the the news of the success of Kunti’syadnya as a reflection of devotion to the ancestor done very well by Yudistira. In the state of panic stricken, Duryudana tries to find out a way how to make Kunti’sYadnyaunsucces.  He ask the advice to his teacher Begawan Drona to give him a way of doing his ambition. By the advice of Drona, he goes to the cemetery at night time to ask the help of the goddess of the dead DEWI DURGA  to help him to do his mission in making Kunti’syadnyaunsucces. Duryadan does the meditation with a very high conscious. For this reason dewiDurgathen willing to give him a way of making his mission a successful one. Dewidurga order all the evil spirits to join Duryadana on the mission. Duryadana is very happy of course.

At the other hand Pandawa now is nearly success to finish the yadnya. They are all very happy but suddently a big calamity threaten the people. A lot of people suddently get sick and died without a clear reason and all the people in IndraPrasta are panic stricken with this situation and as a king Yudistira has a duty to take the responsible. Yudistira ask for the help of kresna to take the action that is needed to overcome the problem.  By his magic power, Kresna can see that the evil spirits are the cause the calamity. By Kresna’s power the undetected can be seen by the people and kresna ask the people to fight against the evil spirits. a lot of people are killed As The evil spirits are too powerful  to them. Kresnathe take over the task and ask Yudistira to get TEBUSALA (kind of sugarcane) as the weapon. Using the tebusala as the weapon, finally Yudistira can defeat the evil spirits and DewiDurga the goddess of the death apologize to Yudistira for her fault to help Durydana .ausing the tebusalaDewidurga ask Yudistira to release her from the curse. Durga actually is the transformation of Dewi Uma the wife of siwa god. Dewiumi is under the curse of DewaSiwa to be a frightening Dewi Durga.

Dewi Durga gives some useful advice to Yudistira before releasing her : 1. Not to use japanese rose( mitir) as any kind of offerin as it grows from her blood. Japanese rose is a kind of flower. 2. Not to use Saba banana for any kind of offering but is essential to give to the baby as itgrows from her maid milk. Pisang saba is a kind of banana.
