PENGERTIAN WAYANG LEMAH
Wayang lemah adalah pertunjukkan wayang yang tidak dilakukan pada malam hari dan biasanya berkaitan dengan pelaksanaan suatu upacara agama. Pertunjukkan Wayang Lemah hanya boleh dilakukan oleh dalang yang sudah menjalani proses pawintenan (pembersihan diri melalui suatu upacara), seperti yang dilakukan oleh seorang dalang yang bernama I Wayan Selamet, yang sudah biasa melakukan pertunjukkan Wayang Lemah. I Wayan Selamet lahir pada tanggal 29 Februari 1964 di Desa Saba, Kecamatan Blahbatuh Kabupaten Gianyar, beliau sudah belajar ngawayang sejak tamat SMA pada seorang dalang di desanya yang sudah biasa ngawayang pada waktu itu. Dan beliau mulai melakukan pertunjukkan Wayang Lemah sejak tahun 1994 setelah menjalani proses pawintenan. Menurut beliau Wayang Lemah adalah pertunjukkan wayang yang berfungsi sebagai pelengkap suatu pelaksanaan upacara keagamaan khususnya di Bali. Menurut beliau kata Lemah pada Wayang Lemah tersebut, memiliki arti palemahan dan menurut penjelasan beliau, kalau beliau melakukan kegiatan Wayang Lemah panggung tempat pertunjukkan itu biasanya dilakukan diatas tanah yang hanya dialasi dengan tikar ataupun yang lainnya. Jadi tidak akan dibuatkan tempat seperti pada wayang pada malam hari. Menurut I Wayan Selamet Wayang Lemah menggunakan beberapa sarana didalam pertunjukkannya yang mempunyai arti dan makna tersendiri. Sarana yang digunakan seperti, gedebong pisang, kayu dapdap ( kayu sakti), beras/ padi, uang kepeng, benang tukelan dan lintingan sumbu minyak kompor.
Gedebong pisang : merupakan simbol pertiwi ( tanah).
Kayu dapdap : merupakan simbol jiwa yang membuat manusia menjadi hidup dan kayu dapdap juga merupakan contoh tumbuh-tumbuhan yang mudah untuk hidup, jadi disini juga diharapkan agar kehidupan di bumi ini menjadi lebih mudah.
Beras/padi : merupakan simbol Betari Sri, karena manusia tidak akan mungkin bisa hidup tanpa ada anugrah dari Betari Sri berupa beras.
Uang kepeng :simbol Sang Hyang Sedana ( Dewa uang), manusia dalam hidupnya sangat memerlukan uang untuk memenuhi kebutuhannya.
Benang tukelan : merupakan simbol angkasa.
Lintingan sumbu : merupakan simbol Surya ( matahari).
Kropak wayang : Simbol bumi tempat manusia hidup.
Wayang : Semua wayang yang ada didalam kropak itu adalah simbol dari sifat dan watak tokoh manusia manusia.
Menurut dalang I Wayan Slamet, pertunjukkan wayang lemah menggunakan lakon yang disesuaikan dengan upacara yang dilaksanakan. Kalau misalkan pementasan wayang dilakukan pada upacara Dewa Yadnya, maka lakon yang digunakan adalah Kunti Yadnya, Marisuda Bumi, dan lainnya. Sedangkan pada upacara bhuta yadnya, maka lakon yang digunakan adalah Bima Dadi Caru dan begitu juga upacara-upacara yangg lainnya harus disesuaikan dengan prosesi upacara yang berlangsung.
