Peranan Sruti Dalam Pepatutan Gamelan Semar Pegulingan Saih Pitu

Istilah sruti berasal dari bahasa Sansekrta yang artinya adalah kitab – kitab weda ( Madiwarsito, 1985 : 539 ). Selain itu dalam dunia musik, misalnya dalam musik India dan Bali, sruti merupakan sebuah terminologi yang berarti jarak antara dua buah nada. Dalam musik Barat jarak antara 2 buah nada itu dikenal dengan nama interval.
Sruti atau interval memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam pepatutan atau pelarasan gamelan Bali. Untuk dapat mengetahui betapa pentingnya peranan sruti itu dalam pepatutan gamelan Bali, maka akan dibahas tentang peranan sruti itu dalam salah satu gamelan Bali yang bernama Gamelan Semar Pegulingan Saih Pitu, ( disingkat SPSP ; mengenai gamelan SPSP lihat lebih lanjut : McPhee, 1996 : Hood, 1990; Rai, 1996 ). Gamelan ini menggunakan pelog tujuh nada ( saih pitu ) dengan bahan bilah dan pencon terbuat dari perunggu.
Studi tentang sruti dan laras gamelan SPSP secara ilmiah ( scientific ) akan dilakukan dengan jalan menggunakan pendekatan tradisi dan modern. Secara tradisi akan dilihat proses pelarasan gamelan itu sesuai dengan apa yang diwarisi secara turun – temurun dan secara modern akan dilakukan pengukuran nada – nada gamelan tersebut dengan sebuah alat pengukur nada yang bernama Hale Sight Tuner ( sejenis stroboconn ). Dari pendekatan tradisi akan diketahui konsep yang melandasi seorang tukang laras gamelan itu bekerja dan tahapan – tahapan yang dilalui dari awal hingga akhir. Dari hasil pengukuran nada itu ( tonometric determination ) akan dapat diketahui denganmelan rinci baik sruti ( dalam cents ) getaran perdetik ( dalam hertz ) maupun beberapa karakteristik lainnya dari The Tuning System gamelan SPSP itu sendiri.
Tahapan Dalam Pelarasan
Proses pelarasan gamelan SPSP dimulai dengan melaras instrument yang berbilah. Pelarasan ini dikerjakan oktaf ( pengangkep ) demi oktaf berpatokan pada petuding. Instrumen pertama yang dilaras adalah jublag sebab instrument ini dianggap sebagai Starting Poin dari gamelan itu sendiri. Setelah jublag dapat dilaras dengan baik, maka pelarasan itu dapat dianjutkan ke pengangkep yang lebih rendah yaitu jegogan atau juga bisa ke pengangkep yang lebih tinggi mulai dari pemade terus ke kantil. Perlu dicatat bahwa dalam pelarasan gamelan ini hendaknya jangkean dimulai dari pengangkep yang paling tinggi yaitu kantil sebab kantil itu memiliki frekuensi ( getaran per detik ) yang paling tinggi dalam barungan gamelan SPSP. Apabila pelarasan itu dimulai dari kantil, biasanya tukang lartas itu akan mengalami kesulitan untuk melanjutkan ke pengangkep yang lebih rendah.
Setelah melaras semua instrument yang berbentuk bilah, maka akan dilanjutkan dengan melaras instrument yang bermoncol ( pencon ) seperti trompong, kempur, klenang dan kemong. B.iasanya instrument berpencon yang dilaras untuk pertama kali adalah trompong. Dalam gamelan SPSP trompong itu pada dasarnya terdiri dari dua pengangkep ( oktaf ) sesuai dengan pengangkep jublag dan pemade. Jumlah pencon dalam tiap tungguh biasanya bervariasi antara satu gamelan dengan gamelan yang lain, misalnya ada yang menggunakan 17 buah pencon ( gamelan SPSP Kamasan ), ada juga yang menggunakan 15 pencon ( gamelan STSI ), ada juga yang menggunakan 14 pencon ( Abian Kapas Kaja dan Puri Agung Gianyar ). Dengan adanya perbedaan jumlah pencon maka cara menyusun nada – nadanya ada variasinya, misalnya di Kamasan – Klungkung nada terendah pada trompongnya adalah nada ke 7 Ndaing ( 2 )dan nada tertinggi pada trompongnya adalah nada ke 2 Ndong ( 4 ). Di Pagan, nada yang terendah pada a trompong adalah nada ke 1 Nding ( 3 ) sedangkan nada tertinggi adalah nada ke 2 Ndong ( 4 ). Di STSI nada trompong yang terendah adalah nada ke 1 Nding ( 3 ). Di Puri Agung Gianyar dan Banjar Abian Kapas Kaja nada trompong yang terendah adalah nada ke 1 Nding ( 3 ) sedangkan nada tertinggi pada trompong adalah nada ke 7 Ndaing ( 2 ).
Instrumen trompong itu tidak dibuat dengan sistem “Ngumbang – Ngisep”. Oleh karena itu pelarasan trompong itu bisa mengikuti pengisep atau pengumbang. Kalau trompong itu dilaras sesuai dengan pengisep maka suara trompong itu tidak akan menonjol apabila seluruh instrumen dalam barungan gamelan itu dimainkan secara bersama – sama. Suara trlahompong seperti itu disebut dengan istilah “Maplekes”. Sebaliknya apabila trompong itu dilaras sesuai dengan pengumbang maka suara trompong itu akan sangat menonjol yang disebut dengan istilah “Ngulun”.
Instrumen suling biasanya dilaras sesuai dengan pengumbang sebab kalau suling itu dimainkan ke pengangkep yang lebih tinggi maka suaranya akan mendekati pengisep. Kalau suling itu dilaras sesuai dengan pengisep, biasanya akan mengalami masalah ( bero ) apabila dipakai untuk memainkan pengangkep yang lebih tinggi.
Setelah pelarasan itu ( bilah dan pencon ) biasanya diletakkan di atas lantai selama kurang lebih enam bulan. Hal ini dilakukan supaya daun gamelan yang baru dilaras itu betul – nbetul metiyisan ( kering ). Apabila hal ini tidak dilakukan biasanya suara gamelan yang baru itu akan cepat sekali berubah ( bero ). Setelah daun gamelan itu betul – betul “Metiyisan” maka laras gamelan harus dicek ulang lagi supaya dapat diketahui apakah larasnya itu memang sudah stabil atau barangkali perlu dilaras ulang.
Pekerjaan selanjutnya adalah membuat bumbung atau resonator. Tiap resonator harus dilaras sesuai dengan nadanya. Karena itu pembuatan resonator ini harus dilakukan dengan hati – hati dan seksama pula. Setelah resonator itu dibuat dengan memuaskan, barulah daun gamelan serta resonatornya itu dipasang pada pelawah dari instrumen masing – masing.
Proses yang terakhir adalah menentukan angkepan – angkepan dari barungan gamelan itu sendiri. Angkep – angkepan berasal dari akar kata angkep yang artinya rangkap. Dalam hubungannya dengan pelarasan gamelan, yang dimaksud dengan angkep – angkepan adalah menyatukan suara dari seluruh instrumen yang membangun gamelan itu sendiri sesuai dengan rasa indah ( musical aesthetic ) dari pelarasnya sendiri. Guna kepentingan angkep – angkepan, tukang laras itu barangkali akan melakukan sedikit penyesuaian ( pelarasan kembali ) pada instrumen tertentu sehingga suaranya itu betul – betul angkep atau menyatu sesuai dengan konsep “The Totality Of The Sound”
Perbandingan Sruti Untuk Setiap Patutan
Salah satu faktor penting yang harus dilihat dalam pepik atutan ( saih ) yang ada dalam g amelan SPSP adalah masalah perbedaan sruti dari tiap patutan itu sendiri.Untuk itu berikut ini kita akan lihat perbedaan sruti dan embat dari kNdelima patutan yang ada yang didasarkan pada ukuran jublag pengisep dari kedua barungan yang diukur.
Kesimpulan
Dari uraian di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa sruti itu memang benar – benar memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam pepatutan gamelan Semar Pegulingan Saih Pitu. Sruti yang baik akan menghasilkan embat yang baik. Dengan sruti dan embat yang baik maka akan berhasil pula dicapai kelima patutan yang ada dalam gamelan Semar Pegulingan Saih Pitu yaitu : patutan Tembung, Selisir, Sunaren, Baro dan Lebeng.
